The VoriHaus Kestrel Rattan Table Lamp puts a hand-woven rattan shade on a polished metal base, and because the weave is open the lamp does two things at once: it casts a warm pool of light downward and throws the pattern of its own weave onto the surface and wall around it. An unlit rattan shade is texture; a lit one is a light fixture and a pattern both.

The base holds a rechargeable battery and charges over USB, so the lamp has no trailing cable and can be carried from a nightstand to a dining table to a shelf without hunting for a socket. The base is also the control: a tap cycles three brightness levels and the three-color light setting. A bulb, the battery and the charging cable are all included.

It stands 11.8 inches high on a 5.1 inch base and comes in two shade styles, shown in the options above. Rattan is a natural material and the weave varies slightly between pieces, which is characteristic rather than a fault. VoriHaus recommends keeping it out of damp rooms, dusting the weave with a dry soft brush, and switching the lamp off before wiping the metal base.
